Alton, Mo. – David Stubblefield was sworn in as presiding commissioner at the Oregon County Courthouse Thursday, June 17, 2021. Patrick Ledgerwood- who had served for 10 years- resigned in May of this year. Oregon County Clerk Tracy Bridges swore him in.
Who Was In The Running?
The Oregon County Republican Party selected three candidates: Stubblefield, Jack Bates, and Randall Jett. These names went to the Governor for review. Stubblefield said after winning,
I am blessed to be chosen [1].
Goals For Oregon County
Stubblefield has goals for the county’s betterment. He wants to improve economic development. Oregon County needs an airstrip. He believes this county needs industry and jobs for people to make a living in Oregon County.
Expectations Of County Commissioner
Duties of presiding commissioner include: establish county policy, approve and adopt county operations budgets, approve actual expenditures, supervise board operations, ensure county compliance, act as liaison.
Who Attended The Swearing In?
Notable persons attended the swearing in. Congressman Jason Smith, State Senator Eslinger, and Representative Copeland were present.
Representative Copeland recommended Stubblefield for the position. Governor Parson announced filling four other vacancies in Oregon County.
Who Is David Stubblefield?
Stubblefield is the owner/operator of Stubblefield Farms. He has owned other businesses in the past. In 2017 he received the Oregon County Family of teh Year Award. Currently he is chair of the County Soil & Water Board.
