Alton, Mo. – Volunteers are wanted for the Alton Food Bank. The Alton Public School does send students over in the mornings when school is in session. However, the students need to return to school long before the work is completed. This is where home schooled kids can step up.
What Is Happening?
The Alton Food Bank meets the first Wednesday of the month. A truck arrives at the Community Worship Center for volunteer to unload. Everything is basically organized for the following day. The next day, Thursday, volunteers arrange packages for those in need. This day these packages are given out to various ones and families. This is all free, no charge or payment.
Who Can Help?
The food bank relies on volunteers. The public school send over students from about 8:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. They work alongside any adults. They then need to return to school. This is where homeschooling students can help out. Without being present the entire day (unless they want to), the home schooled kids can step in when the public school kids leave, providing no gap. This is open to kids of any age as they will be worked. Generally, the passing out and cleanup is completed by 3:00 p.m. However, a family does not need to stay the entire time. Whatever time they are present, would be greatly appreciated. This is not a babysitting service and the students are expected to follow orders and apply themselves.
When Is This?
This takes place the first Wednesday of each month, and then the next day for distribution.

Anything Else?
Wear comfortable clothes, especially shoes. Volunteers can show up Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. Every volunteer is appreciated. So come on, mom and dad, bring the kids and spend time helping others.
