The University of Missouri in West Plains is making an offer to senior citizens that’s almost too good to pass up. They can attend fall classes without paying any tuition. While young adults are busy racking up credit hours to earn their respective degrees, seniors may take a class to better themselves, sit in with a grandchild, or learn a trade. Here are the details.
Who Can Take Advantage?
The Senior Citizen Fee Waiver Program is available for seniors aged 62 and over.
What Are The Stipulations?
The senior may take a class on an audit, non-credit, seats-available basis. The university does have a few pre-requisites. The senior will pay course fees along with the costs of required textbooks and supplies. Seniors may register beginning on Friday before classes begin. A minimum of ten students must be registered in the class before the senior can register. The senior needs to be a non-degree-seeking individual.

Here are the qualifications necessary.
- minimum 62 years old
- nondegree-seeking
- resident of Missouri
- citizen of the United States
- not applicable to online courses or other classes disallowed
What Is Not Allowed?
Certain courses are not allowed for the senior program:
- online nursing, welding, and viticulture classes
- law enforcement academy classes
- any course offered in conjunction with the South Central Career Center in West Plains.
