Early last week, United States Senator Mitch McConnell wanted to have the leadership vote before the Georgia run-off election planned for December 6, 2022. Despite multiple objections saying that the vote should wait, McConnell went ahead and had the leadership vote on Wednesday, November 16, 2022. He won the Republican Majority Senate leaders 37-10.

Objections

Multiple U.S. senators objected to the leadership vote before the run-off elections in Georgia. The senators include Ted Cruz (Texas), Josh Hawley (Missouri), Marco Rubio (Florida), Ron Johnson (Wisconsin), and Mike Lee (Utah). Senator Ted Cruz motioned that the leadership vote be postponed until the Georgia run-off election had happened, but that motion failed 32-16. [1]

No Sense

This decision to vote for leadership does not make sense. If Georgia goes to Herschel Walker (Republican), the Senate will be the Republicans; but if the vote goes to [2]Raphael Warnock (Democrat), the Democrats will have control. Until the run-off election, no one knows who will get the majority of the Senate.

The Vote

The leadership vote happened on November 16, 2022. [3]Senator Rick Scott (Florida) was also wanting the Majority Senate Leader role. Thirty-seven senators voted for McConnell while ten voted against him.
