Alton, Mo. – The Alton Chamber of Commerce met for the regular scheduled meeting on Thursday, October 19, 2023. Attendees discussed the past Walnut Festival, plans for Pocket Park, the making of committees with accountability, and the location of the next meeting. They also talked about low memberships this year.
Walnut Festival Recap
The Walnut Festival was a success. It began rocky. Many suggestions were thrown on the table, including past experiences of numbering the booth spaces. They discussed adding tables and chairs around the square during the festival. They also decided to move the chamber booth to a more convenient location.
Pocket Park
Teresa spoke on her results so far for the pocket park. She is getting an idea of what attendees may want. The chamber decided to allow the surveys to be taken until the end of the year. You can still complete a survey expressing your thoughts on the park by clicking here. There was a discussion regarding a tax for the park. Also, they will confer with city hall about legalities at their next meeting in November.
Memberships
Although the chamber mailed out the membership letters months ago, a few members said they hadn’t received anything in the mail. The chamber wondered if this is why membership was low, and they will look into the matter. If you have been a member in the past and have not received your membership renewal letter, don’t hesitate to get in touch with the chamber via their Facebook page.
Committees
Members thought making committees for events or accounting was a good idea. They left time for thinking over committees for a future meeting.
Next Meeting
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the chamber will be on November 16. They will meet at Jason’s Mexican Restaurant on the square. At that time, they will decide whether or not to meet in December.
