The Geminid meteor shower is set to peak tonight, December 13, 2023, through tomorrow, December 14, 2023. Around 100 shooting stars per hour are predicted. [1]

The Shower

Unlike other meteor showers, where the best time to see them is after midnight, you can start seeing the Geminid shooting stars shortly after nightfall. As the night goes on, more meteors will be seen shooting across the sky.

Where To See It

This year is a good year to see the Geminids since the moon will not hinder observers. The only problem is the clouds that are forecasted for that night. Alton, Missouri, is in the “fair” section of seeing the meteors. You can see Accuweather’s cloud forecast here.

Educational

This is a great educational experience for everyone, especially younger kids who don’t stay up late. Children can learn more about meteors and can enjoy God’s creation.

Other Showers

Other meteor showers will be on December 21st, 22nd, and January 3rd, but they will not be as frequent as the Geminids. [2]
