Alton, Mo. –The Alton Comets boys’ and girls’ basketball teams took on the Koshkonong Blue Jays on January 30, 2024, for their homecoming. Both Comet teams won, with the boys winning 63-53 and the girls winning 55-11.
Homecoming
Before the matchups, the homecoming queen was announced. The four senior candidates with their escorts were Jennah Holman with escort Marcus Cockrum, Renee Nash with escort Jacob Ruddy, McKenzie Smith with escort Rydan Deckard, and Gracetyn Warren with escort Dillon Weyland. The 2024 Alton Homecoming Queen was Renee Nash.
Boys
Both the Comets and Blue Jays were evenly matched during the game. Multiple Blue Jays had several three-pointers, including Devan Stankovich (#00 for Blue Jays) and Riley Villavicencio (#30 for Blue Jays). At halftime, the score was 37-22, with the Comets leading.
Second Half
In the second half, the Comets kept the Blue Jays around ten points behind them. Cole Trantham (#34 for Comets) made a three-pointer with 2:37 in the game. During the second half, there were multiple turnovers from both teams. The final score was 63-53, with the Comets taking the win.
Girls
Right off the bat, the Lady Comets got several points. With 2:25 in the first quarter, the Comets were up by twenty points. In the second quarter, the Comet starters were taken out of the game. At halftime, the score was 34-6, with the Comets leading.
A Further Lead
The Lady Comets continued to lengthen the lead in the second half, keeping the Blue Jays to only five points. Lilly Haddock (#23 for Comets) had multiple three-pointers in the second half. The final score was 55-11, with the Comets winning.
