The Thayer Bobcats went up against the Fatima Comets on February 27, 2024, at the Thayer High School in the Class 3 Sectional 5 game. Although the game was close, Thayer pulled away with a 53-42 win.
First Half
During the first quarter, Fatima was doing a lot of scoring. The score at the end of the first quarter was 13-10, with Fatima in the lead. The two teams continued to be evenly matched in the second quarter. Devin Harrington (#3 for Bobcats) made two dunks in the first half. The score at halftime was 23-21, with Thayer leading.
Third Quarter
The game was still very close in the third quarter. Right off the bat, Rowan Spencer (#2 for Bobcats) made a steal. With 2:12 in the quarter, Thayer hit their five team fouls. Harrington had a big couple of minutes with two two-pointers, a block, and an almost dunk, which wasn’t counted due to an offensive foul. The score at the end of the third quarter was 35-33, with Fatima leading.
Thayer Pulls Away
In both the third and fourth quarters, Thayer’s defense came up big. Several Bobcats had steals in the fourth quarter, most of which ended up for points for Thayer, including Rowan Spencer, Devin Harrington, Brandon Prince (#4 for Bobcats), Mark Spencer (#5 for Bobcats), and Easton Pitts (#1 for Bobcats). With around 2:00 in the game, Fatima hit their five team fouls, which helped boost Thayer’s lead. In the last minute and a little extra, Harrington made two dunks for a total of four in the game. The final score was 53-42, with Thayer taking the win.
