On Wednesday, August 21, 2024, local resident Richard Haigwood passed away. Local law enforcement was called to the scene of the accident near Thayer.
77-year-old Richard Haigwood died when he crashed the pickup he was driving on Highway 63 near Warmfork Road. The crash was investigated by the Thayer Police, assisted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Oregon County Sheriff’s Office. The Thayer Fire Department, Survival Flight, Oregon County Ambulance District, and Alton Police all responded to the scene.

His funeral will be Friday, August 30, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Alton First Baptist Church. He will be buried at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Alton. Instead of flowers, donations can be made to the cemetery or St. Jude’s Hospital.
