How much do you know about black nears? Missouri is home to over 900 black bears, and their numbers are growing. Many Missourians find these animals fascinating and have many questions about them. Are all black bears black? Do bears hibernate? Are they in southern Missouri? Will they attack me? How can people and communities Be Bear Aware? Why is fall a prime time for people and bears to encounter each other in the woods or on the roads? MDC (Missouri Department of Conservation) is hosting a class to help you learn what you want to know about these animals.

How Can I Learn?

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) hosts a Wild Webcast on Black Bears in Missouri and how to Be Bear-Aware.

When Is The Class?

The class will be on Wednesday, October 30, from noon to 1 p.m. As this is a virtual event, you can stay safe indoors while learning not to antagonize the beasts.

MDC Black Bear Biologist Nate Bowersock will share interesting information and fascinating facts about black bears in Missouri. He will also show plenty of pictures and, time permitting, answer viewers’ questions.

As cooler weather comes upon us, bears eat more and prepare to rest during the colder months. What should you do to avoid upsetting one you see is something to know before you meet the bear.
