On Wednesday, February 21st, President Trump announced that he was appointing Missouri Governor Mike Parson to the Council of Governors. The Council of Governors is a board of ten U.S. governors who help advise the U.S. Secretary of Defense, Secretary of Homeland Security, and the White House Homeland Security Council.
The Council of Governors
The Council of Governors was first authorized back in 2008 by federal law. It became officially established in 2010 as a panel composed of ten governors from around the nation. The Council of Governors help advises various security officials of the U.S. This includes advising issues on or related to the National Guard and national defense, U.S. homeland security, civil support missions, and disaster response.
“The Council plays an important role in providing bipartisan advice from the states to the White House on these vital matters,” Parson said, “including how we most effectively can utilize the National Guard around the globe and across the nation.”

Trained and Ready
Governor Parson has served in the U.S. Army for six years. He has made two tours to Europe in his time in the military. After leaving the Army, he served for 22 years in law enforcement, 12 of which were served as a County Sheriff. In the past 18 years, the Missouri Army and National Guard have supported over 22,000 federal deployments along with sending over 14,000 Guardsmen to assorted state emergencies.
“We know Governor Parson will be an outstanding advocate for the Show Me State’s Soldiers and Airmen on the Council,” Major General Steve Danner, the Adjutant General, said. “At home and abroad, Governor Parson knows how critical it is to have a trained and ready National Guard. No National Guard in the nation has a more credible, demonstrated track record for excellence than our Missouri National Guard.” [1]
