Alton, Mo. –Despite heat and humidity, the crowd still showed up for the annual Alton, Missouri fireworks display. After a wet and cool spring, summer hit with all its heat and humidity. With a forecast of showers again this year, residents even then appeared at Piney Creek Park for the fireworks celebration on July 3, 2019.
The boy and Cub Scout honor guard came forward at 8:30 p.m. By 9:00 p.m. it was dark enough for the fireworks show. First came a live singing of our nation’s anthem. This was followed by practically a non-stop performance for thirty minutes left the crowd remembering the anthem and why the words have such meaning.
Parking could be done down on the field or up on the hill near the entrance. Then emergency vehicles were notated. Firetrucks, ambulance, and local law enforcement personnel had cars right down the middle. When one raised his eyes, he saw numerous other tents and buildings. A multitude of food, snacks, and drinks were being sold.
Different canopies advertised. Then at the end were the children games. For a $10 fee, one had unlimited use of the games. Adults could join in, too. The bounce house is always a hit, along with the obstacle course. Nonetheless, with heat prevailing, the water activities were the favorites. Even adults joined in to cool off, taunting other adults who refused to join the fun.
