Alton, Mo. – 2021 is Missouri’s bicentennial. In honor of our bicentennial, Missouri 2021 Bicentennial is having a poster contest. Students in the grades 3-12 can enter.
Who Can Enter
Nonprofit arts agencies, cultural heritage and educational institutions (e.g. museums and historical societies, 4-H clubs, private and public schools, homeschool networks, etc.), and public libraries can enter into the art contest. [1]
Grade Catagory’s
The judges will pick two posters out of the grades 3-6 and two more posters out of the grades 7-12.
The Deadline
The entries must be postmarked by October 31, 2020.
The Theme
The theme for the poster contest is the following: showing Missouri’s stories- past, present, and future.
Rules
Only one entry per student is allowed. Students should use two-dimensional art media which include paints, crayons, colored pencils, collage. The art media must be able to be transferred to a poster format. The designs must be 8.5″ by 11″ and must be vertically oriented.
Judging
The judges will be judging the following:
- Interpretation of the contest theme: Sharing Missouri’s stories— past, present, and future.
- The originality of the submission.
- Consideration of geographic and cultural diversity.
- Aesthetic quality; i.e. the art submission should be appealing to the eye.
- Overall artistic ability; i.e. degree of creativity and skill for its age group.
- Ability to translate the concept into a final poster design. [2]
What You Receive
The winners will get $200 and a certificate acknowledging your achievement, and an invitation to the poster unveiling.
History of the Contest
For Missouri’s centennial, Vinnorma Shaw made a poster for the centennial and to commemorate Missouri Centennial Exposition at the Missouri State Fair.
