Great news for those filing their 2019 taxes: the deadline is postponed until July 15, 2020. In March 2020, the Trump administration extended the tax filing deadline to July 15, 2020, three months after the normal deadline.
What Does the President Say?
President Trump announced the extension last month, saying that families and businesses will have this extra time to file with no interest or penalties. He also hopes that by July, “people will be getting back to their lives.”
This is valid for all taxpayers who owe $1 million or less. This extension applies to businesses that owe $10 million or less. No interest or penalties will be charged. No additional paperwork is required.
Why Is This Happening?
This is only one in a series of measures the government is using to help Americans deal with the ongoing pandemic. Filing for state taxes is left up to individual states.
