Once a year, free citizens set apart a day to pray specifically for our country. Each year has a supporting theme. This year, the National Day of Prayer theme is Pray Fervently In Righteousness. Alton will pray for our nation on Thursday, May 4, 2023.
Where Are People Praying?
All across America, people will pray for our country, our leaders, and, specifically, for God to heal our land. This year’s theme comes from the Biblical verse James 4:16b, The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Past years have seen prayer warriors battle the wet elements while praying on the courthouse lawn. This was usually during lunch hours. However, the Ministerial Alliance encourages residents to come out and pray for our nation. Therefore, they altered Alton’s prayer time to evening and set it inside a church.
When Do We Pray?
The National Day of Prayer is Thursday, May 4, 2023. Residents can go to the Alton Assembly of God Church to pray at 5:30 pm. Dr. Steele from Macedonia Baptist Church will lead the group in prayer.
Gather Together
Immediately following the time of prayer, helpers will have hot dogs and hamburgers cooked and ready to eat.
Who Can Attend?
The public can attend this prayer service. It is not limited to members of a particular church. All ages can come and pray for our nation.
