Prince Philip was born in Corfu, Greece, on June 10, 1921, to Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark and Princess Alice of Battenberg; his family was exiled while he was still a baby. He joined the British Royal Navy in 1939. He abandoned his former Greek and Danish royal titles to become a British subject. Hence being a British subject, he was made Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth, and Baron Greenwich. [1]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II are third cousins.
