While there, the AltonMo.com field team interviewed locals concerning holiday-themed ideas. The four questions were as follows: &#8220;Why do we celebrate Christmas?&#8221; &#8220;What is your favorite holiday tradition?&#8221; &#8220;Will you stay up till midnight on New Year&#8217;s Eve?&#8221; and &#8220;Do you prefer daytime or night parades?&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>The Reason<\/h2>\n<p>The first question was, &#8220;why do we celebrate Christmas?&#8221; Most of those polled knew the answer, which is the birth of Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jesus&#8217; birth- 85%<\/li>\n<li>Other- 15%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Traditions<\/h2>\n<p>This question had lots of different answers. Since there were so many different opinions, here are some of the answers we got: finding a pickle, having family get-togethers, clearing driveways, and eating food. The most repeated answers were eating food and being with family.<\/p>\n<h2>Midnight<\/h2>\n<p>It is a controversy: do you stay up until midnight or do you not? It was pretty divided, but most people will not be staying up to welcome the new year.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Yes- 43%<\/li>\n<li>No- 57%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Parades<\/h2>\n<p>The city of Alton has had both daytime and night parades.
