Plants not native to a region can greatly reduce the quality of wildlife habitat. Exotic plants that invade native habitats can reduce or eliminate native species. Consequently, this can negatively impact the populations of insects and wildlife that depend on those native plants to survive. To educate the public on what is native versus what is exotic, the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is hosting a workshop.

(MDC) virtual program “Invasive Species: Identify and Manage Exotic Invasive Plants.” will instruct residents on how how to identify and control exotic problem plants on their property.

In this program, MDC Natural History Biologist Susan Farrington will discuss how invasive plants can negatively impact wildlife. Additionally, she will discuss how to deal with exotic plant problems in practical ways.

This program is scheduled for February 6 from 6-7 p.m. The staff at MDC’s Twin Pines Conservation Education Center in Winona is hosting this event.

What Will Be Discussed
