The recent pandemic brought so many changes. The worldwide disease altered everything from families, workspaces, schools, and gathering spots. However, moving past the pandemic, lives are having trouble returning to where they were three years ago. Senior centers were hard hit and are having a harder time returning to normal. A bill on our Governor’s desk will help these centers provide for our elders. Now is the time to let our governor know how we feel.

What Happened

At the start of the pandemic, senior centers closed. As too many people in any area were deemed detrimental to our health, schools, stores, and even parks closed. Funds for the Alton Senior Center, as well as other centers, were diverted to other necessary departments that had a direct impact with COVID. Now that this pandemic is officially over, the funds need to be reassigned to the senior centers. HB 10 does this.

Where The Bill Stands

Representative Smith submitted the bill. It went through the Missouri House and the Missouri Senate. It now lies on Governor Parson’s desk, awaiting approval.

What The Senior Center Is Asking

The Alton Senior Center is asking residents to petition the Governor. Let him know that we are concerned with caring for the Area Agencies on Aging. Let him know that we support HB 10, including Senior Services Growth and Development Program funding. We want our seniors to have the funds necessary to age in place.
