Alton, Mo. \u2013 <\/strong>Alton held its annual fireworks Independence Day celebration on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. Heat and humidity in the forecast did not deter fireworks watchers. But downpours of rain were disheartening. But the show Did go on! Per one viewer’s estimation, approximately 700 people were there.<\/p>\n

Before Show<\/h3>\n

Viewers parked around the circle at Piney Creek Park. Booths were already selling aromatic foods and drinks. While iced drinks sold fast, attendees stopped by political booths to discern the direction of their ballots in one month. Children amused themselves on water slides, even one with bubbles! Then the rain fell. Though nothing serious, it was a heavy downburst that lasted several minutes. This allowed many to pack up their cars and return home. Some waited it out under the small pavilion.<\/p>\n

Once the rain stopped, people began milling around again, eating, talking, buying, and mingling. Some kids had balls of various sizes with which they would play together. There was an opening prayer for the evening, along with the singing of our national anthem.<\/p>\n

The Fireworks Show<\/h3>\n

The fireworks began immediately following the cutting power to the lights. It was not far into the show when the rain beat down again. A few planned and had brought umbrellas. Their show went on undeterred. Others opted for watching in their vehicles, a plausible alternative. While one can see the show, the booming sounds were primarily drowned out by the drum of rain or by closed windows. But many people gave up, got into their vehicles, and left.<\/p>\n

But the rain did not stop the fireworks show. Bright colors filled the sky. Even after the finale, large bursts of color boomed into the evening. After the show had finished, the rain stopped shortly after that.<\/p>\n

All in all, it was a memory-making evening celebrating the birthday of our nation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
