Alton, Mo. – Alton held its annual fireworks Independence Day celebration on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. Heat and humidity in the forecast did not deter fireworks watchers. But downpours of rain were disheartening. But the show Did go on! Per one viewer’s estimation, approximately 700 people were there.

Before Show

Viewers parked around the circle at Piney Creek Park. Booths were already selling aromatic foods and drinks. While iced drinks sold fast, attendees stopped by political booths to discern the direction of their ballots in one month. Children amused themselves on water slides, even one with bubbles! Then the rain fell. Though nothing serious, it was a heavy downburst that lasted several minutes. This allowed many to pack up their cars and return home. Some waited it out under the small pavilion.
