On Wednesday, September 23, 2020, President Trump announced that he would sign an executive order to protect babies born prematurely or after surviving an abortion. President Trump said,

Today, I am announcing that I will be signing the Born Alive Executive Order to ensure that all precious babies born alive, no matter their circumstances, receive the medical care that they deserve.

He went on to announce an increase in federal funding for neonatal research to ensure that each child has the “best chance to thrive and grow.” [1]

Why Was This Done?

Trump has pounded the issue of late-term abortion and infanticide ever since a bill in Virginia would have allowed abortion up to birth. That 2019 bill also permitted abortions in out-patient clinics and eliminated informed consent. Also in February of this year, the “Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act” failed in the Senate.

What Was In This Order?

The White House has declined to detail what was in the order, including the date it is expected to be signed. Trump vowed to protect religion, prayer, and the right to life. The protection of children is the country’s “sacrosanct moral duty.” [2]

When Did This Happen?

trump was speaking at a National Catholic Prayer breakfast Wednesday morning.
