For over 100 years, people have recognized Campbell Soup as a household name, one that means quality. In recent years, Campbell Soup has expanded its interests and has now voted to drop the “Soup” from its name.
Beginnings
Campbell Soup began as a canning facility in 1869. Joseph Campbell and Abram Anderson joined to can tomatoes, vegetables, preserves, and other products. After Anderson left, the company became Campbell Soup Company. Many people grew up on the commercial singing, Mmm, Mmm, good…
Recent
Over time, Campbell Soup has expanded its repertoire, adding vegetables, snacks, salsa, soup, and much more. However, in a September 10 meeting, they announced the name change to Campbell Company. The name change is subject to shareholders’ approval in November.
Campbell’s current president and chief executive officer, Mark Clouse, said the company seeks to redefine itself with a “new strategy, new mission and new name.”
Clouse said in a statement.
This subtle yet important change retains the company’s iconic name recognition, reputation and equity built over 155 years while better reflecting the full breadth of the company’s portfolio [1].
About the name change, he continued,
One that respects our heritage, but also reflects who we are today [2].
Sales
Today, they offer more than soup. Their name brands include V-8, Goldfish, Prego, and Pepperidge Farm. Though the name will likely change, Clause has insisted that the company will not change the recipe!
