Are you a black Friday shopper? Do you wait all year in anticipation of these deals? Have you made a list of where to shop and what prices you want? You are not alone! Last year, 76.2 million people shopped in-store on Black Friday. Additionally, 90.6 million shopped online. Here is a breakdown of interesting statistics.
In-Store Buying
Millions of shoppers get their Christmas lists and head to stores for the best deals. Walmart and other large department stores also have hourly sales that can anger and dissatisfy shoppers. However, the spirit of Christmas and gift-giving abounds on that day.
According to statistics, Walmart is the department store of choice. 71% of shoppers choose to shop here, followed by Target and Kohl’s.
Online Shopping
Also called cyber shopping, 75% of people plan on shopping online on Black Friday. Amazon is the choice for online shopping, followed closely by Walmart.
Millions shop and spend more money on this day than any other day of the year. The top categories people buy on this day are electronics and apparel. However, for gift-giving, shoppers bought clothing and toys.
Stats
Due to the terrible economy, consumers plan on spending less than in previous years. With credit cards maxed out and savings spent, shoppers are looking for deals. However, with the outlook of a new administration that would lower the tax burden on Americans, more shoppers plan on participating in Black Friday shopping than in previous years.
Generally, the holiday shopping season begins on Black Friday and continues until Christmas Eve. Also, Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, is the official day to begin playing and singing Christmas music.
