Alton, Mo. – The Great American Eclipse will occur on Monday, April 8, 2024, passing right over Oregon County, Missouri. Realistically, one would have to live in a cave not to notice that something is happening this weekend. While many events and festivities are happening throughout the weekend and into Monday, there are also closures to consider.
Libraries
Each public library in Oregon County will be closed all day Monday.
License Bureau
The Alton License Office will be closed on Monday. Plan ahead for license renewals.
Courthouse
The courthouse will be closed on Monday. However, feel free to take commemorative photos of the courthouse.
Open
Most stores will remain open for this event. Some may close during totality so the employees can also experience it. But Harp’s Grocery Store, Simpson’s True Value, the gas stations, and Dollar General will remain open to service their customers.
The Court Square Cafe will be open with an altered menu to meet the guests’ needs. They will be open Saturday and Sunday from 8 am to 8 pm.
The county is working hard to make this eclipse a happy, memorable occasion for everyone.
