Alton, Mo. – Local citizen Grant Nelson has attended our city council meetings for two months. Like several concerned citizens, he felt quieted during the last meeting. While he has done much research, he wanted to ensure the public knew the law and their options.

AltonMo.com interviewed Nelson. He spoke knowingly of statute 573.060, which speaks of displays of sexually explicit material; 573.010, which has definitions; 573.525, which enumerates the purpose of the law; and 573.531, which specifies the 1000 ft rule from sensitive land uses. He went on to remark about 573.540, in which the town council can enact any ordinance rule or regulation on sexually oriented businesses or similar adult-oriented businesses.

Each of these statutes can be found online in Missouri law. He wants the city council and citizens to be informed of their rights. While some may feel government statutes can be intimidating, he has researched the law to find ones that apply to Alton in Missouri. When one realizes he does have choices, he can make educated decisions.
