How patriotic are we? Do we get excited when businesses encourage local citizens to learn essential facts? This idea will strengthen your thoughts about America. An ice cream parlor in Massachusetts is passing our FREE ice cream to children twelve and under who can recite the pledge of allegiance.
What Is Happening?
The Eskimo King ice cream shop in Swansea, Massachusetts, gives free ice cream to children ages twelve and under who can recite the pledge of allegiance every Monday evening between 4 and 7 p.m. Some children come every Monday, recite the pledge, and get a free ice cream each week.
Who Can Participate?
This is for children ages twelve and under. However, parents and grandparents come to cheer on the children.
Where Did This Idea Come From?
Although the owner, Ms. Diemoz, likes the idea, she did not come up with it originally. The idea impressed her 14 years ago. In 2010, she saw an ad in the National Dipper, a national magazine for ice cream retailers. An ice cream shop owner in Savannah, Georgia, was the original one who placed the ad. She said,
He was challenging other ice cream places to do the same thing, So we got on board, and we’ve been doing it ever since [1].
This idea binds the community together. Patriotism lives on from Monday to Monday.
