Over 100 Big Lots stores are closing across the United States due to inflation and economic pressures.
The Locations
Although not all the locations have been released, countless stores have begun to hang closing banners at their storefronts. As of right now, only three stores are closing in Missouri: one in Kansas City, one in St. Louis, and one in St. Joseph. [1]
Reasons for Closing
It has been reported that about 149 stores will be closing in over 25 states. [2] President and CEO of Big Lots Bruce Thorn made the statement:
We missed our sales goals due largely to a continued pullback in consumer spending by our core customers, particularly in high ticket discretionary items. We remain focused on managing through the current economic cycle by controlling the controllables. [3]
Closing Date
Several of the closing Big Lots stores are already having closing sales. The exact closing dates are not known.
