Starlink is an ISP (internet service provider). They areÂ
What They DO
Starlink is an ISP as previously stated, but unlike the majority of other ISP’s, Starlink uses satellites to allow their customers to access the web. As their website says, “Starlink satellites are over 60 times closer to Earth than traditional satellites, resulting in lower latency…” [1]
How do I get It
At the beginning of this month, Starlink opened the beta to the public in certain areas, northern United States, Canada, and the UK. [3] In order to see if you can order the Starlink kit you can go to their website, www.starlink.com, and enter your email and address. Upon clicking order now, it will take you to another page where you can fill out your information. Depending on where you are it might say that they are targeting your area and that you can expect it from mid-2021 to 2022.
What does it cost
You have to deposit $99 to reserve your spot. The hardware costs $499, and the shipping is $50. The monthly cost is $99 and this will be recurring just like other ISP’s. When you place an order and it goes through successfully, you will be sent an email according to ARS Technica, [4] who will notify you when your Starlink is ready to ship.
