Walnut Festival Committee Busy Making Plans

Alton Walnut Festival.

Alton, Mo. – The 39th Annual Black and Gold Walnut Festival is quickly approaching. Plans are underway in many areas. As a chamber committee, the walnut committee is busy sending vendor applications, planning events, and securing music.

When Is This?

The Walnut Festival takes place on the first Saturday of October, which is October 5, 2024. This year, the chamber moved the time back an hour to 10-5 to better accommodate shoppers. However, as in times past, the committee is working on fun activities sure to draw a crowd on Friday evening, October 4. Once activities are confirmed, we will let you know!

What Will Happen?

Saturday will be full of contests revolving around the walnut theme, pumpkin carving, and live music from the school and other bands. They are looking for vendors or groups to add to the festival. For example, they are looking for tradesmen to demonstrate how to do something. The committee is finalizing a t-shirt for the festival, which can be purchased beforehand. Booths will surround the square with vendors selling everything from jewelry, souvenirs, food, and raffle tickets.

Other ideas the committee is working on are possibly the best booth contest, a smash-it area, perhaps a run and car cruise-in on Friday night, and possibly drone footage. What about a group/vendor renting out cubes as lockers so shoppers can store their goods while they shop more? How about a photo booth? How about a chicken poop bingo booth? That brings a laugh.
