Alton, Mo. – A smaller attendance at this month’s chamber meeting did not slow the progress. With the upcoming Walnut Festival and decisions about the pocket park, they had lots to discuss and decide on.
Officers
Liam Hession stepped down from his duties as treasurer and Walnut Festival committee chairman due to health problems in his family. He will remain secretary. McKenzie was voted as the new treasurer.
Walnut Festival
The Walnut Festival will be on Saturday, October 2, 2024. This year, the gates open at 10 a.m., and the fun continues until 5 p.m.
Friday Night
The night before, the chamber is planning an antique car cruise-in on the square from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Friday will be the 1-mile fun run and walk, followed by a 5k. Alton Cheerleaders will guide runners on their path. To keep the costs at a minimum and to increase the number of participants, runners will Not receive a free shirt. Additionally, on Friday night, there will be a bounce house and live music!
Walnut Festival
In the morning, live music from the school children and the band will be performed on stage. In the afternoon, other bands will follow the Walnut Idol Contest.
Saturday Evening
The Alton FFA hosts a truck and tractor pull at Piney Creek Park to round out the festivities.
Pocket Park
Pocket Park is next to Jo’Ella’s and the library on the square. The chamber plans to set up food vendors in that area and open the park for eating during the Walnut Festival. It was voted and passed to join Missouri Main Street Connection, which will help with grants for the park.
New Meeting Times
In January, the Alton Chamber of Commerce will try a new meeting time. Beginning in February, it will meet on the third Thursday of each month at Noon. They will continue to meet at the Alton United Methodist Church and have lunch catered. They want to engage businesses by allowing them to give reports on their business.
Information regarding the upcoming Walnut Festival is yet to be worked out. As AltonMo.com gets the information, we will pass it on to the public.
