Alton, Mo. – On Saturday, November 16, 2024, the BB Road Volunteer Fire Department held its annual hunter’s meal. Being held on the opening weekend of firearm deer season, hunters coming from the field enjoyed a home-cooked hot meal as they exchanged hunting tales about ‘the one that got away.’
Meal
The evening began slowly. Servers lined up to serve ham and beans or chili. Families arrived. It was a mom’s night off, so children could eat their fill while mom did not have to cook or clean up afterward. As the evening progressed, more hunters appeared, sporting their bright orange vests and hats, customary of the season.
Hunters and attendees meandered through the food line, passing salad and dessert tables. At the end, there was a place to enter raffle drawings.
Drawing
The BB Road Fire Department has high-valued raffle drawings. This was no different. They raffled a rifle and necessary kitchen appliances. Everyone left satisfied: the husband with a rifle, the wife with kitchen appliances, and the children with full stomachs.
This dinner comes annually to help the BB Road Volunteer Fire Department and hunters. All proceeds went to the fire department.
