Despite the morning’s heat and heavy rain in the afternoon, the BB Road Fire Department held a barbecue dinner on Saturday, August 26. A crowd filled the building, eating and purchasing raffle tickets supporting the local volunteer fire department.
Meal
The barbecue pork dinner was available from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, August 26. Friendly servers dished out pulled pork with or without sauce. Then, they had baked beans and green beans. The choices of salad made attendees hunger for more. Not to be forgotten, a dessert table with competing colors and textures met each person’s expectations.
From cakes to pies and cookies, from puddings to pecan pie to blueberry dump cake, how could anyone say no to dessert? The fire department also provided sodas, tea, or water.
Raffle
While eating, one can plan how much to spend on raffle tickets. They are raffling a bundle of prizes and, separately, a gun. These items will be drawn during the deer hunters’ supper in November.
Location
The BB Road Volunteer Fire Department is located east of Alton, off Highway 160. One need only look for the sign and turn down the dirt road. It is at the corner of county roads 225 and 222, just a short way from Highway 160.
After eating, locals lingered, talking amiably with neighbors. It was good to relax together.
