Free Backyard Poultry Workshop Planned For August 16th

Do you want to raise chickens for eggs or meat? Do you want to learn about keeping your birds safe from predators? Are you interested in feeds and forages for poultry? All of these topics will be covered at the Oregon County Backyard Poultry Workshop on August 16th, 2024.

The Workshop

MU Extension Livestock Specialist, Elizabeth Picking and MU Extension Agronomy Specialist,Haley Schwantzwill discuss how to incubatehatchand raise chicks to adulthood. They will also demonstrate how to candle eggs to identify is eggs are fertilized. Attendees will also learn how to identify if eggs are fresh and safe to eat or if they are spoiled.
Attendees will learn about bird housing such as space requirements, materials, and needs. Picking will discuss predator control to avoid bird loss. Schwantz will discuss forage selection and diversity for pasture raised and freerange flocks.

MU Extension is hosting the conference at Victory Freewill Baptist Church at 1:00 pm on Friday, August 16, 2024. .
