Alton, Mo. – The Oregon County Public Libraries are offering an incentive to keep the kids reading through the summer. By reading ten books and filling out a punch card, kids can earn a FREE Happy Meal from McDonald’s.

How It Works

A child picks up a punch card from the local library—Alton, Thayer, Thomasville, Myrtle, or Koshkonong. He takes a book home to read. When he is finished reading, he returns it to the library and gets a punch on his card. Ten punches equals a free Happy Meal from McDonald’s. For every book your child reads, he/she will get a punch on his/her card. After 10 books are read and 10 punches received, they can take the card to McDonald’s for a free Happy Meal! He can continue to fill out the cards all summer long.

Dates To Do This?

You may be thinking, What’s the catch? There is none! McDonald’s wants children to enjoy reading. The punch cards will be available for pickup at the libraries on June 3. The reading program lasts through August. However, you can cash in your free Happy Meal through the end of the year.

Who Can Do This?

All children in Oregon County between the ages of 0 and 17 can participate!! That means parents can read to babies and toddlers. Teens, this is your chance to read and get double benefits. The cards will be available at each Oregon County, Missouri, library on Monday, June 3, 2024.

This is an excellent way to encourage slow readers to find the love of reading over the summer. After the pandemic, many children lag behind in their reading levels. Make a change this summer.
