Thayer, Mo. – On Thursday, August 1, 2019, a back to school fair was held at the Thayer Elementary School. It was conducted between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Many families of the community participated.
What Comes First
Approaching the school, one noted the full parking lot. The line for the free school supplies wound down the sidewalk. Upon entering the building, families were shepherded to the gymnasium. Booths were set up encircling the facility. These booths passed out free items alongside information. Free quick eye exams were available. Alongside that tables were set up for the medical clinic, dentistry, several churches, and even the library. Students could enter for a free haircut.
Then the Cafeteria
After that room, participants were led to the cafeteria for local school supplies. Tables were arrayed with backpacks of various sizes, colors, and shapes. Bordering the room were the colorful supplies. Students could choose what was needed as per their grade.
Leaving the Cafeteria
Exiting the cafeteria, students could choose a pair of shoes, often new, for the upcoming school year. Departing the building, each person received a coupon for a free kiddie ice cream cone from the nearby DQ. It was good that the bulk of participants arrived early as a rainy downpour came shortly before noon.
