Alton, Mo. – The Walnut Festival is almost here. Final preparations are coming into place, and there is still room for a few more vendors. With beautiful weather in the forecast, a large crowd is expected. Here are the final details.

Friday

Run
Run, cruise in

Friday evening begins with a cruise-in at 5 p.m. This is free to everyone and definitely family-friendly. Following that is the 5k and 1 mile run/walks. An update: Families of four or more need only pay $25 for the entire family to participate. If you have three or fewer participating, you continue to pay the $10 per person. They will have inflatables and bounce houses for children on the square. There will be live music and street dancing after the run.

Saturday

Saturday begins early for vendors arriving to set up booths and their wares. Although the Walnut Festival begins at 10:00 a.m. with the singing of our National Anthem, people entering items for the baking and woodworking contests need to submit their entries earlier, as early as 9:30 a.m. The choirs and band perform until 11:00 a.m. The Walnut Idol Contest follows.

Additional announcements and the quilt raffle will be held at noon. Between 1 and 2 p.m., the Vicki McGee Band will perform, followed by Jerry Bone and Friends. The festival will close with Jumpin Jack.

Meanwhile, vendors will sell their wares all around the square.

Special Notes

The chamber booth will be right next to the stage. This is important to those submitting contest entries.

Shirts will be available to purchase at the festival. Winners of the chamber contests will be announced before the Jumpin Jack performance.
