Alton, Mo. – Although Missouri is on the way to economic recovery, the Alton Public Library is, unfortunately, still not open. For the safety of its patrons and the employees, the library is currently closed.
On Monday, May 4, 2020, Missouri began its Phase One to Recovery program. Stores and businesses are beginning to reopen. This is with many safety methods in mind.
The Alton Public Library is a public place. In it, patrons share books and materials. The library personnel wants to keep their facilities as clean and germ-free as possible. That being said, the library is closed. Although this is a time many people stay at home and read or watch movies, a shared book system could further spread the COVID-19 virus; an undesirable outcome.
Will It Stay Closed?
Nonetheless, the closure is not aimed at permanency. The library board has a meeting on Thursday, May 14, 2020, to discuss the situation and offer precautions and suggestions to get the library back open for the customers. The employees at the library are hoping to reopen the facility in June. At that time, local residents can once more enjoy the books that are good for the entire family.
