With Thanksgiving a day away, we take a moment to look at the statistics surrounding this holiday. Whether you are traveling and thinking about the weather or planning a meal, most Americans participate in the holiday.

Meal

Over 80% of Americans eat turkey on Thanksgiving. The next choice of meat is ham. But what are the dishes that accompany turkey? In a recent Indiana poll, stuffing was the favorite side dish to turkey. Whether you add celery and onions or use a packaged mix does not matter. Just seeing the stuffing with the bird makes the meal.

After stuffing, the family favorites are mashed potatoes with gravy and green bean casserole. Following those were candied yams and cranberry sauce.

Pies

After the meal, one anticipates the desserts. As much promotion is done on pumpkin pie, it is the number one dessert choice. After that, families choose apple and pecan pies—fall harvest favorites. Some go for the more summertime cream pies. Others choose cranberry streusel pie. Add a dollop of whipped cream to any pie, and you are ready to relax from a seasonal movie and think happy family thoughts.
