With the overturn of Roe v. Wade in 2022, several states stepped up to protect women and their unborn babies from death. While Missouri has a total ban on killing an unborn baby unless to save the life of the mother, other states have just as stringent laws.
Indiana
For example, Indiana outlaws abortions at all stages of pregnancy with only some exceptions. This became effective last August. Recently, the Indiana Department of Health released a report on abortions in the state for the first quarter of 2024. Incredibly, there were only 45 abortions during the first quarter, down from nearly 2,000 during the first quarter of 2023. That’s a 98% decrease!
Arkansas
Meanwhile, Arkansas has remarkable numbers to report, too.
A report from the Arkansas Department of Health’s Vital Statistics found there were no abortions reported during the entirety of last year. That is a lot of babies being born. The state started enforcing its abortion ban in 2022. Before that, yearly abortions were over 3,000.
West Virginia
The Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI) estimates that West Virginia’s 2023 abortion rate was 0.1 abortions per 1,000 women ages 15 to 44, down 98.1% from 2022. In 2023, there were 16 abortions reported in West Virginia, a decrease of 98% from the previous year.
While some people still advocate for a woman’s choice to kill her unborn child, the reports are coming in of how many abortions are elective, not necessarily saving the life of the mother.
