Whether you dog is getting a little round or you just want to spend time with your pooch, here is a a chance to get it done! The American Kennel Club (AKC) has an AKC Fit Dog Challenge for you and your pup.
Exercising
The Fit Dog Challenge has you walking, or running, you dog. You can add to the walking by doing obedience, agility, or other forms of exercise for your dog.
Length Of Time
The challenge requires you to, at the least, walk your dog for thirty minutes a day, five days a week, for three months (for dogs and people in good shape). Or you can walk at least fifteen minutes two times a day, five days a week, for three months. The second one is for dogs and people who benefit from a shorter walk (senior dogs). [1]
Keep A Record
It helps if you keep a record of how long you walk and how many times you walk. You can make your own form, or the AKC has a form you can print out.
Challenge Complete
Once you complete the AKC Fit Dog Challenge, you can get a Fit Dog magnet. To get that, keep a record of how many times you walk and for how long, then complete the Magnet Order Form.
Why Do It?
Why do this challenge? For one thing, you and your dog are getting more fit. Second, you and your pooch are bonding and spending time together. Three, walking helps you sleep better, it helps your heart, reduces stress, builds muscle, and so much more.
So make sure to get out for thirty minutes a day and walk with your doggo!
