Alton, Mo. – The Alton Public Library is open once more after the coronavirus shutdown. For several weeks Alton was quarantined with the rest of Missouri. Now the reopen orders are out, and businesses are slowly reopening. Alton Public Library has a slow reopening. This means that there is not a huge announcement welcoming all of the patrons back. Instead, via word of mouth or seeing signs, one stops by and realizes the library is open. This helps the librarians handle any surprises that may arise.
What Is Different?
Although the library is open, notices with precautions are posted. Keep social spacing. Lines are marked along the floor. Two plastic bins are just inside the door for returning books and videos. These items are quarantined for three days before processing. And the outside after-hours drop box is still available. The drop slot at the check-out desk is currently unavailable. Meanwhile, at the desk is also clear plastic to protect both the employees and the patrons.
What About The Materials I Requested?
Many, but not all, of the Missouri public libraries are open. The materials previously requested through the online system will be working their way around the state, only through open libraries. Our librarian will call you when your material comes in. They ask for patience as they each work through the extra precautions and care due to the virus. Meanwhile, enjoy the book or movie and be thankful the facility is once again open.
