A Background On Christmas Trees
The Christmas tree symbolizes Jesus Christ’s birth and resurrection. The branches are viewed as an emblem of immortality and to symbolize the crown of thorns worn by Jesus Christ on the cross. The ornaments put on the tree have special significance too [1], although most people put whatever ornament they want on the tree. The star on the top of the tree signifies the star the wise men followed to find Jesus in Bethlehem. Angels are also used on top of the tree. It refers to the angel who announced Jesus Christ’s birth to the shepherds.
Germans Started It
It is said that the Germans started the tradition of having the Christmas tree inside the house in the 16th century. [2]
Christmas Trees In The U.S.
There are many big Christmas trees in the United States. One of the famous Christmas trees is the Rockefeller Christmas Tree, a Norway Spruce, in New York City. It is 79 feet tall, 46 feet wide, and weighs 12 tons. [3]
National Christmas Tree
The National Christmas Tree is also a tree to see at the White House in Washington, D.C. The tree is 30 feet tall. In 2019 and 2020, former President Donald Trump spoke at the National Christmas Tree lighting ceremony and acknowledged God while doing it.
