In 2024, a solar eclipse will be visible in parts of the United States. This eclipse will take place on April 8, 2024. Many people will not experience another full solar eclipse in their lifetime. The next full solar eclipse in Missouri is forecast to come in 2505.
What Is A Solar Eclipse?
Among the areas that will experience the eclipse is Alton, Missouri. For four minutes, the sky will be completely black. This is twice as long as the last eclipse. Do you know about this? Missouri is partnering with its tourism bureau to encourage visitors to the region. To get the ball rolling, here are a few facts.
Where Will It Be Experienced?
This eclipse is being called “The Great North American Eclipse.” [1] It cuts across southern Texas, continues up through Hot Springs, AR; Poplar Bluff, MO; Cleveland, OH; and finally Buffalo, NY.
And Alton?
The town of Alton, Missouri is right on the path of totality. As a result, we get 4 full minutes of darkness in the middle of the day [2]. Compare that to Springfield, which gets no darkness at all. The same goes for Kansas City and St. Louis.
Compared To 2017?
The last solar eclipse occurred in 2017. Comparing numbers, this upcoming eclipse will last twice as long, have a longer path, and affect almost twice as many people. Cities along the pathway in 2017 experienced huge numbers of visitors for the event. Alton can expect that, too. Besides preparing yourself and your family, begin today to come up with ways to equip our town for this occasion.
