Best In Small Town Rankings- Alton!

Alton Courthouse

Alton, Mo. – Alton, Missouri, has a small-town charm. Whether it is the court square with businesses surrounding it, the family park, or the locals offering a feeling of belonging- Alton is a great place to live. At least, that is what World Atlas thinks.

Recently, World Atlas posted an article about the best small towns in Missouri. While St. Louis, Jefferson City, and Kansas City get a lot of recognition and visitors, small towns also attract visitors. Alton is one of them. It offers a family-friendly allure.

Appearance

Alton still has the main courthouse, off of which come the businesses. Especially during the Walnut Festival, visitors exclaim how charming this town, built around the courthouse, is. Small shops and diners give it a home-town atmosphere. Even businesses not directly on the square are run by ‘neighbors’ willing to go the extra mile to help you find what you need.

Attractions

The town of Alton is not the only attraction for visitors to the area. The beautiful landscapes, rocky cliffs, and appealing river also draw visitors. On any given summer weekend, the Eleven Point River will be full of boaters, kayakers, and canoeists. Spectators can see wildlife: deer, raccoons, and even eagles. Bird watchers, picnickers, hikers, and campers pervade the forests—all within minutes of downtown.

So grab soda and snacks at the grocery store and head for a boat rental to enjoy your peaceful day away from big-city living.
