Deer season is just around the corner. Whether you use a bow or a firearm, you must be aware of the current rules and regulations. Oregon County is one with changes to encourage deer hunting. [1]The MDC is trying to lower the deer population by decreasing the female population. To accomplish this, they are adding season and increasing permits for landowners.
Early Antlerless Season
Oregon County will be open for an early firearm season of October 6-8, 2023. MDC (Missouri Department of Conservation) chose this time for pleasant hunting weather.
Regular Firearm Season
Regular firearm deer season is November 11-21. Nothing changed here.
CWD Firearms Season
This is open to those who have unfilled firearm permits. This follows the regular firearm season. It is November 22-26, 2023. Although not as many counties are involved this season, Oregon County is. If you hunt outside Oregon County, you may want to check the schedule to verify if that county allows the later season hunt.
Firearm Antlerless Permits Available
The number of antlerless firearm permits one may obtain in Oregon County is four.
Landowner Permits
If you own 75 or more acres in Missouri, you can now receive two antlerless firearm permits free.
One can purchase deer permits online here or stop by the West Plains MDC office or another office. Be sure to show proper ID. Many stores and gas stations also sell the permits.
