If you’re wondering how to warm up on a winter day, consider drinking tea made from native trees and shrubs. Free classes on Tasty Teas from Trees and More will be offered by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) on Feb. 14 in Warsaw and Feb. 15 in Clinton. In these programs, students will learn how to make tea from wild native edibles.
What Is Happening?
A workshop with MDC conservation educators Ginger Miller and Kara Entrop teaches how to identify various tree and shrub parts, how to prepare teas with them, and when to gather the materials. A variety of sample plants will be used, including white pine, sumac, spicebush, and elderberry. Among the items that will be available for taste testing are maple and shagbark hickory sap syrups made from maple and shagbark trees.
