Alton, Mo. – Back in 2017, areas of Missouri did experience the eclipse. That darkening of the sky hit both major Missouri cities: Kansas City and St. Louis. The upcoming eclipse in 2024 will bypass both major cities. It will even miss larger cities like Springfield, Branson, Columbia, and Jefferson City. Nevertheless, Alton, Missouri will experience the total eclipse.
History
The 2017 eclipse was the first one experienced in the US since 1979. That was the first eclipse to cross the US since 1918. Just as a bit of trivia, the last full eclipse that Missourians experienced was in 1442. That was a long time ago.
Because of the great time span between eclipses, Missourians are preparing now for the big event! Missouri tourism is planning with communities in the path. People will come from all over the country and all over the world, just to participate in this eclipse. The next US eclipse will not happen until 2045.
