The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) wants to encourage everyone to relax and get out to enjoy spring flowers. Several native trees and shrubs bloom in the spring. Their brilliant colors after a drabby muddy spring brighten the eyes and the mood.
What Blooms Soon?
There are several plants that are called early bloomers that will be blooming any time now.
- Serviceberry. These are clusters of white flowers. The flowers often appear before many plants have leaves.
- Spicebush. This grows along streams and in wooded areas. It offers pale yellow flowers.
- Redbud. These bring bright pink-purple flowers light up leafless branches. The flowers are edible and taste great in salads.
- Wild Plum. This shows off white flowers. This tree is common along roads, across fields, and neighboring woods.
- Dogwood. Always around Easter, the dogwood offers its delicate while blossoms. Whether March or April, this plant knows just when to bloom.
Overall Health
Fresh air and sunshine go a long way to promote mental health and physical well-being. You can even use a car drive to enjoy the colors, colors of promise and life going on. Nevertheless, during this pandemic season, be sure to keep your social distance and wash your hands frequently.
