Winona MDC Hosts Controlled Burn Workshop

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) hosts a prescribed burn workshop on Feb. 15 at Twin Pines Conservation Education Center (CEC) in Winona. This workshop is geared towards landowners who want to burn but not too much.

What Is Happening?

Prescribed burning can be a valuable tool for managing native plant diversity and controlling undesirable vegetation. However, it can be dangerous and deadly when misused. This workshop will provide basic information on planning and executing a prescribed burn for land management.

Prerequisite

You must register for the class before arriving. Limited seating is available, and the class is filling up fast.

Upon registering, participants will be asked to complete the virtual/online portion of the prescribed burn course. This online course is mandatory. There is a $25 fee to complete the online training. Participants are required to bring their certificate of completion to the workshop. To find the online learning portion, visit http://short.mdc.mo.gov/ZoU.

When Is This?

The workshop is scheduled for Saturday, February 15, 2025, between 9:00 am and noon.

Cost?

The only cost is the virtual class fee taken before the field experience.

Weather permitting, a demonstration burn will be conducted during the workshop. Participants are asked to wear a long-sleeved shirt and pants made of natural fibers, leather gloves, and closed-toe boots.

Where Is This?

Twin Pines CEC in Winona will host the controlled burn workshop. It is located at 20086 Hwy 60, on US 60, east of Highway 19.
