March is National Reading Month. Here are the top five books from each of several different websites that compiled lists of the greatest books and books that should be read by everyone.
New York Times
Although it happened in 2021, the New York Times asked individuals to choose the five out of twenty-five books as the best book in the last 125 years. The results were as follows: To Kill A Mockingbird, The Fellowship of the Ring, 1984, One Hundred Years of Solitude, and Beloved. [1]
Oxford
Oxford Summer Courses put together a list of ten English literature books to read in 2023. Here are the top five: The Great Gatsby, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Wuthering Heights, 1984, and Great Expectations. [2]
Urban List
At the end of 2022, Urban List put out a list of twenty classics that everyone should read during their lifetime. Their top five books are The Catcher in the Rye, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Outsiders, The Great Gatsby, and Wuthering Heights. [3]
BookBub
In March of 2024, BookBub compiled a list of sixty-one books that should be read. The top five books are To Kill a Mockingbird, Pride and Prejudice, 1984, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, and The Book Thief. [4]
Kubashi
Kubashi put out a list of the ten greatest books of all time. Several of them are the same as previously mentioned books. The top five books are To Kill a Mockingbird, 1984, The Great Gatsby, Pride and Prejudice, and The Catcher in the Rye. [5]
